42-15641375Pitt Meadows Secondary graduates are frequently eligible for a variety of scholarships and bursaries. As information about scholarships is made available to the school, it will be posted here. Check this page frequently for the most up-to-date information. Please read all information carefully and be aware that deadlines vary for each award.

We post information sent to us, but there may be other scholarships available for you. Check with your employer/union and you parents’ employer/union. Many companies and unions offer scholarships to their members and members’ children. Also check the website for the post-secondary institution(s) you plan to attend; almost all of them offer financial aid and scholarship opportunities.


The SD42 Financial Aid booklet has been posted for 2012 grads. CLICK HERE to download the SD42 Scholarships book as a PDF file or CLICK HERE to view it as an online flipbook.  It is important to note that these awards require two letters of reference; be sure to request reference letters early so that you can meet all deadlines.  Attend all scholarship info sessions (in January) and read the directions carefully as some scholarships are to be mailed directly to the organization offering the award and others are to be given to your GT12 teacher.  Your SD42 scholarship packages must be given to your grad transitions teacher on or before Spring break:  Friday, March 9, 2012 (noon).

Our school may nominate up to 3 well rounded Gr. 12 students achieving 85%+  for national scholarships called the Loran Awards
The Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation grants Loran Awards to talented young Canadians on the basis of character, service and leadership potential.  If you are interested in applying, note that the deadline for receipt of  the application in Toronto  is October 19th, 2011.   Go to the website:  http://www.loranaward.ca to check out the criteria and print out an application.  Ask Mrs. Willms or Mrs. Griffin to nominate you asap.

Toronto Dominion Bank’s  2011-12 Scholarships for Community Leadership. Application deadline is October 31, 2011. Up to $70,000 (as it can be renewed while you are in university.    Eligibility:  demonstrated outstanding community leadership and obtained a minimum overall average in Gr. 12 of 75%.   600 word essay, 3 letters of support, a letter of recommendation from our school.  Mrs. Willms’ has the application info and forms … see her OR it is online at http://www.tdcanadatrust.com/scholarship

Schulich Leader Scholarship is a national competition worth up to $15,000 per year.  Each school is allowed to nominate one student who is pursuing  Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics at a participating university (UVIC, SFU and UBC).  Selection will be bases on academic grades, leadership in school or community and financial need.  If you would like to be considered for this award please see Miss. Griffin in the Career Centre … all the paperwork needs to be done and posted before January 13, 2012.

Submit on-line applications no later than January 25, 2012 for the U. of Guelph’s National Scholarship Program (12 @ $32,000).  You apply directly and must have a minimum 90% admission average to be considered.  Must also have app form, letter, biographical details, 2 letters of reference and an official transcript.   Go to:  www.uoguelph.ca/president/scholars/

Burger King Scholarships: Submit applications November 15th, 2011 – January 10th, 2012 for the chance of winning $1,000-$50,000 scholarship! FEBRUARY 2012 DEADLINE

For Sciences enthusiasts!  The BC Innovation Council  has a Young Innovator Scholarship for someone who is continuing their education in advanced technology industries (combo science/technology/business).  The scholarships are awarded through 2 methods:  An Idea Mash-up which is a competition that challenges students to create a new technology by mashing together 2 or more current technologies OR through entering a Science Fair (You need your Science teacher to register you before the end of February!  Then you submit your work before June 29, 2012.   Mr. Peruggia and Mrs. Howard have the info and application forms etc.  Visit:  http://www.bcic.ca/programs/talent/young-innovator-scholarship

2012 BCGEU Student Scholaships.  This has an essay requirement.  If you are the son/daughter or grandchild of a member (still working, retired or deceased) of the B.C. Government Employees’ Union you are eligible.  You must also be attending a full or part time post secondary program in Canada in 2012.  You must have a “C” average or better, with a transcript as proof.  There are 5 essay topics to choose from.  Mrs. Willms has copies of the brochure.  Application forms and info may also be found at:  www.bcgeu.ca or from union offices.  Deadline:  before Feb. 29, 2012.

U. of Alberta Academic Excellence Scholarships.  Must have 85% average or higher.  There is also an Entrance Scholastic Distriction scholarship (95% or higher) and the Entrance Leadership Scholarship for outstanding leadership/involvement.  PDF applications available on the website as of Dec. 1/11 and the deadline to apply is February 15, 2012.  Website:  http://www.registrarsoffice.ualberta.ca/Scholarships-and-Awards

MARCH 2012  DEADLINE

All applications for in-District scholarships, bursaries and awards will be due just before Spring Break.  These include the applications for the District Dogwood Authority Awards for Leadership, 2nd Language, Physical Activity, Applied Skills and Fine Arts.

March 31 Deadline: 
Coast Capital Savings Awards — you don’t have to bank with them — 32 Citizenship Awards (@$2000) for those who take a leadership role in the community and 16 Standing Tall Awards (@$5000)  to students who have worked hard to overcome a significant personal challenge.  Apply online at http://www.coastcapitalsavings.com/awards.  Need transcript and 2 letters of reference.  Deadline is Sunday, April 1, 2012.

Please go onto to our website for further details. This is a great opportunity for Ridge Meadow students to apply to our Entrance Scholarships, of which there is a specific number reserved for the Ridge Meadows district.  The deadline this year is March 15, 2012.

Will you be attending COLLEGE in the fall.  This scholarship is specific for colleges; not universities or university transfer.  The online application for the Entrance W. Garfield Weston Awards is now available at

The Vancouver Canucks are proud to offer the Trevor Linden Community Spirit Scholarship to four grade 12 students throughout BC each year who have demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities and exemplary contributions and commitment to enriching the lives of others in the community.    March 15, 2012 deadline. APRIL 2012 DEADLINE

  Two scholarships (@ $6,000)  – C.S.T. Consultants Inc. Guruparan Scholarship (female applicants)  and the Winsor Scholarship (male applicants).   Available annually to two Canadian citizens who are academically gifted, well-rounded, and will be pursuing their first undergraduate commerce/finance/business degree/diploma at a recognized post secondary institution in or outside of Canada.   This program is aimed at those students whose parents/guardians do not have a post-secondary education or received their post-secondary education outside of Canada.  More info at:   www.cst.org or www.scholarshipscanada.com.   Also, Mrs. Willms has a hard copy of the application form and instructions to apply.  Please see her asap as the deadline is before April 30, 2012


Overwaitea Food Group Joint Diversity Scholarship; 10 @ $1000 each.  Must be going on to post-sec in the Fall and have demonstrated involvement in diersity initiatives in your school or community.  The online application is available on the Diversity Scholarship page at www.owfg.com/diversity   Application must be received before May 1, 2012

DEADLINE TO APPLY: April 6, 2012  The BC Technology Scholarship supports the development of BC’s technology workforce of the future:   BC Technology Scholarship program provides grants to students who have a proven passion for technology and a desire to put their passion to work in a technology company.  (This includes, but is not limited to: IT, Engineering, Marketing, Product Management, Business Development, etc)  This year there are 6 x $1,000 grants available for Grade 12 Graduates preparing to begin their post-secondary education.   Successful applicants will be notified in early May, and the grant recipients will be formally presented during the 2012 Technology Impact Awards (TIAs) on June 14th, 2012.  Applications for the BC Technology Scholarship are done completely online.   To view the full criteria, and to apply, visit http://www.bctia.org/Community/Tech-Scholarship.

Douglas College bound? –   Mrs. Willms has copies of the Douglas College Entrance Scholarship applications and the Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited Entrance Awards (for Douglas) in the GT Room.  Deadline is May 1.  The application forms are also available on their website:  http://www.douglas.bc.ca/services/financial-aid/forms.html

MAY 2012 DEADLINE

The Confratellanza Italo-Canadese Society is again offering two $1,000 scholarships to eligible candidates for this year (good marks as well as having at least one parent or grandparent of Italian descent.  The scholarships are open to this year’s graduating secondary school students planning to enrol in a post-secondary academic degree program for the first time in 2011.   The deadline for applications is May 31, 2011.  See Mrs. Willms for the hard copy instructions and application form.

Is your mother or father a member of the Hospital Employees’ Union (HEU)?  You are eligible for the Beckie Dyer Bursary Award for $750. if you are going on to post-secondary.  500 word essay component.  Mrs. Willms has the application form or it can be downloaded at www.6011@cupe.caDeadline is Mary 15, 2012 so act quickly on this.

The Betty Spalton Education Scholarship.  This merit-based program presents up to two scholarships in the amount of $1,500 to successful candidates pursuing educations that will lead to careers in the road building and heavy construction industry.  An information poster can be downloaded at:  www.roadbuilders.bc.ca/uploads/newsletters/BCRB_2012_Betty_Spalton_Poster.pdf  and additional information can be found on the website at:  www.roadbuilders.bc.ca/education_fund.php.  This is sponsored by The BC Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association  … this is not for university programs but rather short comprehensive training courses offered through specific training institutes and BCIT for jobs such as  project managers, engineer technicians, heavy equipment operators and flaggers etc. Due Date:  May 31, 2012

If you are from a farm background and interested in post-secondary education in the agriculture field in some way, you are eligible for a Monsanto Fund Scholarship (@$1500).  Deadline is May 25/12.  More info at www.monsanto.ca  Mrs. Willms has the application forms.

The Royal Canadian Legion offers 22 bursaries of $1000 each every year.  Military/Legion affiliation is not required.  Application forms are available from the Legion office at 12101 224th Street, Maple Ridge, Tel:  604-463-5101, Tuesday to Saturday Noon to 4:00 pm or through your secondary school counselor’s office … specifically the Career Centre.  Deadline for receipt of the application is May 14, 2012.

JUNE 2012 DEADLINE

studentscholarships.org has reminded us that the following scholarships have deadlines approaching.  Four of the scholarships have deadlines in the next 30 days.

1) Fraser Institute Student Scholarship – $1,000 ­ 3 Awards (Deadline:
June 30, 2011.  Showcase your ideas on public policy and the role of markets by writing
an essay. Each year the Institute holds a competition for students, designed to encourage and develop student writers.  To be eligible for this scholarship you must write an essay on the 2012 topic chosen by the Fraser Institute.

2) 10 Words or Less Scholarship – $500 ­ 1 Award (Deadline: June 30, 2012)  To be considered eligible for the Scholarship a student must be:  1. Anyone who is between the ages of 14-25 who will be attending school
in the Fall of 2012.  2. Answer question in 10 words or less on ³Why you deserve the $500

3) StorageMart Scholarships – $5,000 ­ 5 Awards (Deadline: June 30, 2012)
Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in the Fall 2012 semester at any college, university or institution of higher education. Submit an essay by the June 30th deadline.  Essay must be 500

4) Delete Cyberbullying Scholarship – $1,500 ­ 2 Awards (Deadline: June 30, 2012)  In an effort to get students committed to the cause of deleting cyberbullying, we are offering the Delete Cyberbullying Scholarship Award
for high school and college students. Students may win one of two $1,500 scholarships for educational expenses.

5) Digital Innovation Scholarship – $1,000 ­ 1 Award (Deadline: August 12, 2012)  To be eligible for this scholarship you must:  1. Write a 500 word essay describing your personal experience with internet entrepreneurship or the importance of new ideas in the digital realm. Topics could include user experience, visual design or any other aspect of digital information you find interesting.

6) Odenza Marketing Group Fall Scholarship – $500 ­ 1 Award (Deadline:  September 30, 2012)
To be considered eligible for the Odenza Marketing Group Fall Scholarship you must:
1.  Be between the ages of 16 and 25 on September 30, 2012  2.  Submit answers to the essay questions, which can be found on the application page, prior to the September 30, 2012 deadline.

If you are a student of South Asian descent, have demonstrated excellence in academics, community involvement or fine arts and have shown leadership and/or service, are a citizen or permanent resident and will be enrolling in post secondary this Fall, you are eligible for the South Asian Family Association Scholarships (3@$1000 each).  See Mrs. Willms to pick up the full criteria and application form and info on where to send it.  Deadline is before June 14/12.

JULY 2012 DEADLINE

The BC Electrical Association has $5000 in bursaries to award to students pursuing careers in:  Electrical Engineering, Electrical, Marketing and Business.  Mrs. Willms has the application form; see her in class.
Deadline to submit applications is July 31, 2012.

Several Sprott-Shaw Scholarships are available.  Need application form (available on line or in GT classroom), transcript, reference letters, resume, cover letter and 300 word essay.  Deadline is July 31, 2012

WCCMT Spa & Aesthetics Scholarship $1500

The Spa and Aesthetics scholarship is awarded once per year to a student graduating from grade 12 and is seeking to gain additional skills and training by undertaking post secondary education, but does not have the full resources to do so. This award is meant to offset tuition associated with the recipient’s efforts to attain higher education.

The select candidate is passionate about health and beauty, customer service driven and motivated to provide high quality treatments in a caring and professional manner to a diverse client population.

How to enter:

Step 1: Complete application form (See Mrs. Willms/Ms. Hampton/Mrs. Griffin)

Step 2: Write a minimum 300 word essay that outlines your education and career objectives. In addition you must be able to demonstrate financial need and supply a letter of reference from a nonfamily member supporting your application for the scholarship.

Step 3: Submit your application no later than July 30th 2012

AUGUST 2012 DEADLINE

BCIT Entrance Scholarships due August 5, 2012.  25 BCIT President’s Entrance Awards and over 60 additional BCIT Entrance Awards.  Students may download copies of the BCIT Entrance Award package directly from the web site at bcit.ca/finaid.  Also there are hard copies of the booklet and forms in the GT room.
